Carra is passionate about food-as-medicine and empowering people to follow a plant-based lifestyle for optimal health, performance, and well-being. She has experienced the power of lifestyle medicine both personally and professionally. She has seen it transform thousands of lives within her practice along with her work as Senior Dietitian and Clinical Manager for Ornish Lifestyle Medicine at Sharecare, Director of Preventive Cardiology at the Boulder Sports Medicine Center and Heart Institute, Senior Trainer/Registered Dietitian at the Institute of Health Solutions, Director of Clinical Nutrition at Lighter Healthcare and as the Nutrition Director for the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Ornish Lifestyle Medicine (OLM). In 2005, Dr. Ornish and his colleagues published research showing that intensive lifestyle changes may slow the progression of early-stage prostate cancer and increase telomere length which promotes longevity.  Carra was the Senior Registered Dietitian on the the clinical team which published the most recent ground breaking research in 2024,  Effects of Intensive Changes on the Progression of Mild Cognitive Impairment or Early Dementia due to Alzheimer's Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial, showing that comprehensive lifestyle changes may significantly improve cognition and function in patients with MCI or early dementia due to Alzheimer's Disease. She started her work with Dr. Ornish in 1993 and later became the Senior Dietitian & Trainer and Clinical Manager for Ornish Lifestyle Medicine and currently the Nutrition Director at the Preventive Medicine Research Institute and Ornish Lifestyle Medicine (OLM).   She has worked and trained with others such as Jon Kabat Zin, Laurel Mellin, the founder of Emotional Brain Training (EBT) and many more inspiring leaders and game changers.
